NEWS:
Dragon 32/64
1) Julian Brown released a couple of updates to his projects this week:
The main board has had an update to handle the ROM’s running at 3.3V,
not 5V:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragon32/posts/4425178251075143/
He also showed a board that leaves a lot of space for future audio:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragon32/posts/4426998974226404/
Stuart Mears posted a photo of the Dragon Professional prototype that was
shown at the RetroFest in Swindon last weekend, along with his boy’s
impression of it:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragon32/posts/4425180851074883/
He also gave a further update on sound:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragon32/posts/4430399310553037/
2) The More Fun Making It channel on YouTube posted a 1 & ½ hour video about
RetroFest 2026 that took place in Swindon, which included Dragon displays:

Coco 1/2/3 (and multi-platform)
1) Daniel Moisset put up assembly source and screenshots showing all
possible VDG colors on the screen at once (in SG4/text mode):
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164356060887641/
This is based on a blog article Allen Huffman wrote earlier this week, which
in addition talked about how the two color sets in PMODE 1/3 graphics modes
use the first 4 and last 4 of the “standard” 8 colors from the text mode:
https://subethasoftware.com/2024/02/01/displaying-all-11-of-the-cocos-8-colors/
2) Maurico Matte has released version 1.0.21 of his Coco DSK & CCC Utility,
in both English and Brazilian Portuguese. It adds OS-9 file explorer and
manipulation options:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164352783707641/
3) Don Sorensen posted more about his matching the silver color between
his Coco 1 and the multipak (white) that he got but wanted to match. He
revealed a secret, based on a story told years ago:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164345638392641/
He also posted pics of a Coco 1 he just got that has some mods to it
including heat sinks on multiple chips. I think it’s an older motherboard
– D or E perhaps?
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164360990737641/
4) Mike Horgan posted on the Coco Facebook group that he has released his
CocoCas2Way.s, adding the capability to make DSK images as well:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164345181737641/
5) Jeff Vaughn posted a poll on the Coco Facebook group asking about how
people feel about Coco MAME emulation:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164343795432641/
6) Rich Stephens announced an update to Fujinet’s Coco 3 VT100 terminal:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164339452577641/
7) Cedric Beaudoin posted on the ESP32-Coco group on Facebook that he
is now sold out of the joystick add on option for the current batch,
but plans on making more in the next batch:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/4262638377332924/posts/4342870872643007/
8) After I mentioned a really cool demo that Sock Master wrote way back
in pure BASIC that showed two way hardware scrolling, Allen Huffman typed
it in and released a video showing it in action:
https://youtu.be/eq0hrpFDFqA?si=Z1dJ_bZwvhaZYU9w
He also released a video showing the VDG timing tricks (switching between
graphics and text screens) that Ciaran Anscomb wrote to show smooth hardware
scrolling on the Coco 1&2 and Dragon 32/64, and asked for help to understand
exactly how it works:
https://subethasoftware.com/2026/06/03/coco-smooth-scrolling/
He also showed a graphical coarse scroll using PMODE with it’s page
offset, written by Juan Castro originally:
https://youtu.be/TLOhpfi46eI?si=eM9lkyR03Y-DzVFJ
9) Brian Palmer released a disk image on the Coco Facebook group that
contains Dish Drawer originally by Craig Stewart for Australian Coco
magazine. This draws a 3D type wireframe:

11) Milton Solomon posted on Facebook that he wants to make 2 keyboard
PCB’s based on files already on the net – but he has to order a minimum
of 5 which makes it more expensive. He is wondering if anyone else would
like to chip in and receive one of the remaining 3:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164359784752641/
12) VCF Southwest has posted Boisy’s presentation about the 12 year
history of Rainbow magazine:

MC-10
1)
Game On news (all Coco related platforms):
1) Some people on Facebook this past week have been showing possible
designs for a modernized version of Dungeons of Daggorath. Allen Huffman
found a video on YouTube done 9 years ago by user “Brain Crook” that
was doing the exact same thing:
https://youtu.be/NG_YCatnepo?si=57rieGBUUAO1dXJc
Some of the other people looking into this this week using AI include:
Robert Sitten used vector style graphics:
https://www.facebook.com/reel/1981395615848644
J. Edward Higginbothom posted screenshots of full color, shaded images
along with the original Daggorath ones for comparison, with ChatGPT:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164351645637641/
So, what does the panel and chat think of this? There are over 100
comments already, with some wanting nothing to do with “updating”
a classic killer Coco app, but others who love the idea of playing the
game on modern machines but with completely updated graphics and sound
(we already have had a Windows straight port for decades)?
2) Marc Maltais released a DSK image on the Coco Facebook group that has
18 games in french from the book “Jeux en Basic sur TRS-80 Couleur”. He
plans on releasing an english version as well:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164345361212641/
3) Wikipedia recently got a page entry for Pinball Factory – a game that
started on the Coco from Michtron but got ported to the Atari ST as well
with enhancemnts by the same author (Kary McFadden):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinball_Factory
4) Chinop on YouTube released a few Coco 1 & 2 gameplay videos:
Nuclear Avenger (I think this was from Chromasette or T&D tape magnazines?):
https://youtu.be/j_Rwh_knSYc?si=QeZR0GmkNuZKew4R
Zonx (from Rainbow magazine):
https://youtu.be/5Pk6WdQfqrE?si=iUOlq2G9Sq1diYh3
5) 8-Bit Basic on YouTube released a video going through 10 different
retro computer versions of Ski Trek, a type in game by Joey Latimer in
the February 1984 issue of Family Computing magazine. This includes a Coco
version, and a C-64 version that he updated. Coco version at 14:52:
https://youtu.be/4XIBi5az28c?si=uNMZxTxnF32_v0pZ
6) Attempts: A gaming channel (by LRU) posted a high score attempt video
for the Dragon game Perilous Pit (a BASIC platform game):
https://youtu.be/8MOPN8eJ_T8?si=SA0TbHs_fVNyI-oO
