Upcoming conventions/trade shows of interest to Coco people:
New England RetroFest is happening in Concord, New Hamphire on Saturday
October 24.

The 2nd VCF Montreal dates have been announced, and they have moved a few
months ahead to avoid the dead of winter (it was in January earlier this
year; the next one is November 7-8 this year as well). It’s at a new
location closer to Montreal proper (Champlain College Saint-Lambert):
https://cvcfed.org/vcf-montreal-2-0/
That same weekend, and newly added to the list, is the next RetroSC retro
computer/gaming show in Brazil that usually features a large contingent
of Coco clones (CP-400, Codimex, etc.), which is happening November 7,
2026 in Florianoplois, Brazil:

NEWS:
Dragon 32/64
- Pixel Cherry Ninja on YouTube released episode 351 of their retro

Also looking for testers to run on real hardware vs. emulators (it appears
to work):
https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragon32/posts/4564117693847864/ - Tom’s Toys (Tom Erik Gundersen, I think?) put up a video of an
unreleased port of the Apple version of Lode Runner to the Dragon 32:
I hope it gets released, it looks quite good!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjOEAw56dFc
He also put a post on Facebook about the use of AI to speed up development,
and has screen shots of a variety of projects that he has underway for
the Dragon, including Lode Runner, Elite, River Raid and Bruce Lee:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragon32/posts/4563543293905304/ - For those in Germany this weekend, they may be able to pop by a German
retro show in Celle, where Jens Diemer will be showing off his Dragon 32:
https://archive.worldofdragon.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11377
https://www.classic-computing.de/cc2026/ - Ian Wellock posted a cassette image of a program built mostly by AI. I
am not sure what it is (Ciaran?), but the cassette is called “trawscym”:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragon32/posts/4566734500252850/ - Simon Hardy uploaded a demo called Scanline Sorcery for the Dragon,
which changes screen modes and color sets multiple times on the same screen:

goes through his computer career (including for the KIM-1), which includes
MicroChess and Micro Checkers, both of which were launch titles on the
Coco in 1980:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxvkDbMUadY - CocoTown has released his latest video, which is a follow up to all of
the disk loading autostart tricks he had in the last video, but this time
showing you how to accomplish these tricks in assembly language:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVzPAVkM2mk - Grant Bloedow put up a video showing his early video of the UK game
Elite, ported to the Coco 3. This is still a work in progress:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hM7aNxqL3nA
He also released update videos for a few games that he has released the
past month, with fixes and performance improvements. He has been using
Claude Code to help speed up development
BattleZ (Battle Zone type game) – this runs quite fast, not sure if it
is 1.78 MHz Coco 3 or .895 MHz Coco 1&2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M11G6Gl9XcY

for the Coco 3 that can be used on a 512K Coco 3 and Fujinet (to log into
ANSI BBS’s). It now also adds getting a BBS directory through Fujinet,
with over 1000 BBS’s:
https://tequestafarian.com/gime-ansi/
He also released a video of his space shooter called Space Raid – this
time showing the Coco 3 game paired with the CocoSDC and it’s streaming
ability to have background music. It looks to be a Galaga style game with
weapons power ups and more:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gENaIfrc-Y
(Note: The non music streaming version is available now):
https://tequestafarian.com/space-raid/
He is also working on a Coco 3 version of Spy Hunter called Deathlane

year or so), and he has released an early development video, also including
background music:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Ufdp65lt0Ro - Robert Sitton has put up a webpage of Coco 3 projects, including
his Wolfenstein 3D port, fractals, shaded cubes (with multivoice music
soundtrack), and even a program that will try and recognize drawn numerals

OF EACH ENTRY TO PLAY VIDEO)

DSK:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164902266352641/ - Simon Jonassen started a debate or two about AI coding on Facebook,
which caused huge feedback, both negative and positive. My personal opinion
(Curtis’) has changed over the last few months after seeing all the rapid
development of excellent games and game ports. Curtis will likely still
code the old fashioned way (when he has time) because he finds it “fun”,
but he can definitely see the advantages. There are still copyright issues
and other things to worry about possibly in the future.

version of ugBASIC now supports playing 16 KHz MP3 audio on the Coco 3
(I think it translates it down to 4 bit sound samples rather than playing
an MP3 in real time):
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10164890754322641/ - Paul Shoemaker released a video update to his upcoming game Lads

Game On news (all Coco related platforms):
- Jason Ross has released the first beta of his Coco 3 port of the LadyBug
arcade game. It should be noted that it is currently set up to be a ROM
cart, and specifically the GMC cartridge to get bank switching and sound
(I think). It needs to be tested on real hardware and other emulators
(it has been tested in XRoar):
https://github.com/Rastamafugg/ladybug/releases/tag/1.0.0-beta - Chronologically Gaming has released another “sometime in 1982”
